Rebel Frequency - Jamaica's Reggae Revival

Rebel Frequency is the first volume in my Reggae Chronicles series, and the first anthology of writing devoted to Jamaica's new wave of singers and musicians. We're talking about Chronixx, Protoje, Kabaka Pyramid and Jah9, together with newcomers like Koffee, Mortimer and Lila Ike, to name but a few. Also Damian and Stephen Marley - uptown rebels who've been among the chief architects of today's 21st Century reggae sound.

They and many others tell of their personal journeys in this 420-page book, as well as the stories behind their landmark recordings. Much of their music speaks truth to power, just like that from the 70s and 90s, but there are important differences between this generation and their predecessors. It's new talk for new times, and it's been fascinating tracing its development over the past decade or so.

Whilst the term "Reggae Revival" isn't well loved, at least reggae fans know what it refers to. That's why I use it as a sub-title but in reality it's a movement that's spread far beyond the Caribbean, and continues to generate songs you can live by. My thanks to all those who let me share in the experience and inspired me to write the fifty or so features and interviews included here, many of which appear in English for the first time.
