Reggae Vibes No. 84, April-June 2024

Writing an obituary about Aston "Family Man" Barrett - a master musician and true gentleman I was proud to call both friend and mentor over many years - wasn't easy. He changed my life after asking me to write his autobiography in 1998 and whilst we later expanded the concept behind Wailing Blues: The Story Of Bob Marley's Wailers to include the story of reggae music's most celebrated and successful ever backing band in its entirety, Family Man remained at the heart of it and shared invaluable insights into his many years as Bob Marley's right-hand man. Respect is due to Gilbert and Pierre at Reggae Vibes for commissioning me to write about him at such length, and honouring his memory in such salutory fashion.
